John M. Collins Jr.

John M. Collins Jr. was born in McKee, Ky., on April 19, 1947. He passed away Jan. 23, 2005, at Community Hospital in Grand Junction.A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Canyon View Vineyard Church in Grand Junction. Burial will follow in Crown Point Cemetery in Grand Junction.John served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1969. In 1976, John joined Jim McConnell and Dennis Moser to build the successful business of Tumac Industries Inc. In 1985 John moved to Grand Junction and with Jim and Dennis, took on a new endeavor and purchased Grand Junction Steel. On Jan. 18, 1997, he married Kenesa G. Lyons in Bullhead City, Nev. John loved the challenges of his life’s work. He enjoyed sports cars, hunting and his pets.John is survived by his wife, Kenesa G. Collins; his mother, Katherine Ducret, of Kentucky; sons Jeff Fitzimmons and Joe Fitzimmons, both of Denver; daughters Jessica Cummings and Geo Yananick, both of Colorado Springs; two sisters, Nancy Elam, of Sand Gap, Ky., and Betty Toler of McKee, Ky.; and nine grandchildren. His father preceded him in death.Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado Building Fund, PO Box 60307, Grand Junction, CO 81506.Arrangements are being handled by Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
