Jordan next up at Summer of Jazz

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” Even if you don’t know of trumpeter Marlon Jordan, you’ve probably heard of at least some of his kin. His father, Edward “Kidd,” is a saxophonist, and his mother is Edvidge, the classical pianist. Kent, his brother, plays flute, while his sister Rachel does violin. Another sister, Stephanie, sings jazz.

What a family affair.

A trumpet player since the fourth grade, Marlon has toured and recorded, playing at gigs with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, Miles Davis and George Benson. In 2005, he and Stephanie traveled with the Higher Ground Relief effort, sponsored by the U.S. Dept. of State, which sought to raise money for Hurricane Katrina victims through a worldwide tour.

Of course, there’s so much more of this story to be told. But to read it, you’ve got to pick up a copy of Wednesday’s paper. Stephanie and Marlon will be playing together at the next Summer of Jazz, held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Two Rivers Park in Glenwood.
