Joseph W. Vittum, 86, passed away July 16, 2008.
He was born Nov. 30, 1921, in Muskogee, Okla. He attended school there and later earned his bachelor of science degree in business at the University of Tulsa.
He served as an officer in the 8th Air Force in England during World War II. Joe completed 35 combat missions as a bombardier-navigator in B-17s with the 490th Bombardment Group.
In 1956, he founded Universal Plumbing Supply Co. in Denver, with five branches serving Colorado. He sold his business interest in 1986 to Dahl Inc. of Denmark, and retired.
For approximately 20 years, he had ownership of the Hotel Colorado, which he sold in 1985.
He is survived by his wife, Corrine; daughters Jan Pilcher of Denver and Jill Arthurs of Highlands Ranch; son Joseph Harlan Vittum of Glenwood Springs; sister Lois Metzer of Muskogee; and seven grandchildren.
At his request, no services were held.
