Judges win positive verdict from voters

Voters have decided to keep four local judges on the bench.Ninth Judicial District judges Daniel Petre and James Boyd and Garfield County judges Paul Metzger and Jason Jovanovich all were retained in Tuesday’s elections.Garfield County residents decided by a 9,480-2,629 vote to keep Jovanovich, and 9,930-2,404 to retain Metzger.They voted 9,428-2,652 to retain Boyd, and 9,672-2,958 to retain Petre.In Pitkin County, with 12 of 13 precincts counted, 83 percent voted to retain Petre, with 17 percent voting no. For Boyd, 86 percent voted for retention, and 14 percent against.In Rio Blanco County, 58 percent favored Boyd’s retention, and 21 percent said no. Fifty-six percent voted to keep Petre, and 23 percent said no.The Ninth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance had recommended that all four judges be kept on the job.Boyd became a district court judge in 2003, and Petre in 2004.Metzger was appointed to the county court bench in 2002, and Jovanovich in 2005.
