Karen Adele Jacobsen

Karen Adele Jacobsen of Carbondale died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at her home. She was 55.

She was born June 23, 1947, in Yonkers, N.Y., to Adele Varian and James McKinley.

She graduated from high school in Irvington, N.Y.



She married John H. Jacobsen on June 9, 1965, in Nyack, N.Y. They moved to Carbondale in 1972.

Mrs. Jacobsen attended Colorado Mountain College and earned a bachelor’s degree from a college in New York.



She was a member of the Orton Dyslexic Society and worked as a tutor in reading for dyslexic children.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Jacobsen is survived by her husband, John Jacobsen of Carbondale; by sons John Jacobsen of Fort Collins, Brian Jacobsen of Midway, N.C., and Rick Jacobsen of Carbondale; by brothers Wes McKinley of New York and Brooks McKinley of Michigan; by a sister, Katherine McKinley of Traverse City, Mich.; and by five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Farnum Holt Funeral Chapel, 405 W. 7th St., in Glenwood Springs, with the Rev. Jay Harmon officiating.

Farnum Holt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
