Karl Mike Jaranyi
Karl Mike Jaranyi died July 8, 2006, in Glenwood Springs. He was born Oct. 23, 1920, in Somogy, Hungary, to Lajos and Maria (Helmich) Jaranyi. Karl married Elizabeth in Pecs, Hungary, in 1951. They escaped Communist-dominated Hungary after the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and eventually were able to immigrate to the United States in June 1959. They couldn’t speak English, but were determined to build a better life for themselves and their three young children.An accomplished accountant, Karl worked in factories by day, and studied English by night at Opportunity School classes in Denver. He worked for more than 20 years as chief accountant at the Duffy Moving and Storage Co. in Denver, and eventually rose to be vice president of the company. Karl and Elizabeth retired to Glenwood Springs in 1985.Karl is survived by daughter Eva Bills of Denver; son Karl Jaranyi of Fayetteville, N.C.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; and his daughter, Esther Jaranyi-Silver.A private family service is planned.In lieu of flowers or cards, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
