Katherine F. Burchell Simon

Katherine F. Burchell Simon of Cattle Creek died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at her home following a long illness. She was 45.

She was born Aug. 13, 1957, in Santa Monica, Calif., to Sarah Fleming and Sam Burchell.

She married Mark Simon on Jan. 26, 1989 near Basalt.

Ms. Simon painted in watercolor and worked in ceramics, and her artwork was shown throughout the Roaring Fork Valley. She painted the big bear mural that used to be on the side of the Faas retail building at 910 Grand Ave. in Glenwood Springs.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Ms. Simon is survived by her husband, Mark Simon of Cattle Creek; by her mother, Sarah Fleming of Los Angeles; and by a brother, Alexander Burchell of Los Angeles.

A celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Simon home at 4333 Cattle Creek Road, Carbondale. Ms. Simon’s artwork will be on display.
