Land trust gets $250,000 for Laurence easement

The Great Outdoors Colorado Board (GOCO) has awarded the Aspen Valley Land Trust $250,000 to buy a conservation easement on the 1,330-acre upper parcel of the Laurence Ranch southeast of Glenwood Springs.

A conservation easement buyer will be identified to purchase the 1,330 acres from the land trust and retain it for agricultural, hunting and wildlife purposes, said a GOCO press release.

The properly is adjacent to U.S. Bureau of Land Management property, and will assure both wildlife habitat and a migration corridor for wildlife. The Aspen Valley Land Trust has already conserved the lower 480-acre Laurence parcel as a working ranch.

Earlier in the week, GOCO awarded Carbondale a $65,000 grant to partner with the Roaring Fork Re-1 School District to rebuild the Roaring Fork High School running track.

Since 1994, GOCO has awarded $295 million in lottery funds for 1,750 projects throughout the state, and more than $1.3 million for projects in Garfield County.
