Larry Smalley, 65, of Rifle, passed away in an airplane crash July 3, 2006, in Montrose. Larry was born Sept. 15, 1940, in Weatherford, Okla., to Harvey and LaVeta (Bradley) Smalley.He was in the U.S. Air Force for four years. Larry married Sally Jarrett July 31, 1966, in Drumright, Oklahoma.He and Sally had lived in Rifle for five years.Larry had flown planes for many years and was a very skilled pilot. Flying was his passion. He was a certified jets pilot for Citation, Lear Jet, West Wind and Hawker. He belonged to Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Colorado Pilot Association and had belonged to the Rotary Club in Oklahoma. Larry loved gadgets, was also a wine enthusiast, and was a fly fisherman.He was a member of the Methodist Church in Weatherford.Larry is survived by his wife of 40 years; son Jeffery (Jennifer) Smalley of Parker; sisters Sheryl (John) Winn of Weatherford, and Kathy (Stan) Templeton of Oklahoma City; and numerous friends.A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 7, at the Rifle Funeral Home Chapel. A reception will be held in the chapel immediately following the service.An additional memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 11, at the Methodist Church in Weatherford.In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the cancer or heart association or to a national organization.Arrangements are entrusted to the Rifle Funeral Home.
