Aspen Filmfest’s Latino Youth Filmmaking Project- the only workshop of its kind on the Western Slope – is back in its fourth year starting July 10.

Taught in both Spanish and English, students learn video production skills and share their personal stories on the big screen during the free summer workshop. The workshop, for Latino youth ages 12 to 18, takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, July 10, through Friday, July 21, at the Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Carbondale. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Kristine Sorensen from In Progress, a youth media organization in Saint Paul, Minn., instructs the workshop. She is a media artist, mentor, and executive director of The Center for Arts Criticism/In Progress who has taught youth in community and school environments since 1987.

Aspen Filmfest is a non-profit organization offering year-round programs and educational opportunities. The Latino Youth Filmmaking Project is made possible through the Danny Kaye & Sylvia Fine Kaye Foundation, In Progress, the Robins Foundation, the Shiela Fortune Foundation, the Thrift Shop and Time Warner. To register or for more information, contact Aspen Filmfest at 925-6882, ext. 106.
