Lenamae Nelson Zimmerman

Lenamae Nelson Zimmerman, 90, of Glenwood Springs, passed away Nov. 4, 2007.She was born Oct. 1, 1917, in Glenwood Springs, and spent her entire life in the Roaring Fork Valley. She was raised on the Nelson Ranch, which became the Traver Ranch, west of Glenwood Springs. She graduated from Garfield County High School in 1934, and was named Most Beautiful Girl while attending high school.She had a lifetime passion for animals and rode to school every day on a white stallion. She married Bruce Cole in 1941, who practiced law with his father before his passing in 1950. Lenamae then married Robert Zimmerman, who also preceded her in death.Lenamae enjoyed dogs, horses, bridge, books and music.She is survived by daughter Kirsten Carlisle of Carbondale; son Nelson Cole of Denver; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son Gregory Zimmerman.A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. A reception will follow at her home in Sunny Hills.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Roaring Fork Hospice and/or St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.
