Leonard LeRoy Hedberg passed away Sunday March 17, 2013, surrounded by his family.

Leonard was born Feb. 2, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to LeRoy Eric Hedberg and Ansley Rebecca Wood. Leonard was an only child from parents who were told they would never be able to have children. His parents loved and cherished him very much. Leonard was raised in Murray, Utah. He was awarded rank of Eagle Scout in 1956. Leonard was also a state champion wrestler for the state of Utah during his senior year of high school. Leonard served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New Zealand in 1961 and 1962. When he returned from his mission, he graduated with a master’s degree in psychology from Brigham Young University followed by a master’s degree with extended studies in Geology from the University of Utah in 1970.

Leonard traveled worldwide as an Exploration Manager, working extensively in the field of Geology. Leonard married his love, Jo Anna Irons, in 1974 in Houston, Texas. Leonard worked as a geologist until moving to Silt, Colorado, in 1990 when he purchased Hy-Way Feed and Ranch Supply, which he proudly managed until the present day.



Leonard is survived by his wife, Jo Anna Hedberg; five children: Michelle Louisa Schneiter, John Brock Hedberg, Ansley Jo Dennis, Autumn Leigh Bair, Colter Leonard Hedberg, and nine grandchildren: Olivia June Nerden, Soleil Louisa Nerden, Georgia Grace Nerden, Rylee Autumn Hedberg, John Colby Hedberg, Brooklynn Jo Dennis, Rhett Ansley Dennis, James Bridger LeRoy Bair and Axel Gunner Bair.

Leonard will forever be remembered as an intelligent, honest, driven, bold and productive man. Those close to Leonard will deeply miss his stories, work ethic, and his fun loving personality and sense of humor.



Leonard was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a strong testimony of his Heavenly Father and his Savior Jesus Christ. He was an outstanding husband and father who loved his family dearly.

Services for Leonard will be held Friday March 22, 2013, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rifle, Colorado at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been set up in Leonard’s name at Wells Fargo.
