Leroy Carl MacTavish

Leroy MacTavish passed away Oct. 15, 2006.He was born Nov. 29, 1919, in Vallejo, Calif., to Margaret and Roy MacTavish. He was raised and went to school in Glenwood Springs, and graduated from Garfield County High School in 1937. He went into the furniture business with his brother and his father. They ran a furniture store named MacTavish and Sons, located in downtown Glenwood Springs on Grand Avenue, until 1941, when he went into the Armed Forces.He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Air Force Reserves.He moved to Sanford, Fla., in 1958. He was owner of MacTavish Discount Carpets in Sanford. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, American Legion, Military Order World Wars and Disabled American Veterans.He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Eleanor Brady MacTavish; sisters Louise Price and Natalie Gardner of Glenwood Springs; daughters Mary Ann (Ron) Clark of Osteen, Fla., and Peggy Hancock of Lake Helen, Fla.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.The viewing was Oct. 18 at the Nativity Church in Lake Mary, Fla., and the funeral followed the viewing at the same church on the same day.
