February 10, 1950 – October 12, 2004Leroy Francis Schroeder died on Tuesday, Oct. 12, in Rifle. He was 54. A memorial mass in celebration of his life will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rifle. Father Robert Hehn will officiate. Burial will be in Nebraska at a later date.Leroy was born on Feb. 10, 1950, in Yankton, S.D., to Raymond and Hildegard (Kneifl) Schroeder. He spent his childhood in South Dakota and was previously married to Arlene Leader. Most recently, Leroy was a trail guide and outfitter who had lived in Rifle since 1989.He was a member of the Catholic church and served in the Army from 1967-1971. Leroy belonged to the Moose 1345 in Rifle and the Garfield County Search and Rescue team. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, and was an emergency medical technician and volunteer fireman in Nebraska. Leroy was very proud to be a member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1988, a great accomplishment for him. He loved his kids dearly and had many friends. He will be greatly missed.Leroy is survived by two sons, Paul Schroeder and wife, Jeannie, of Rifle, and Anthony Schroeder and wife, Lisa, of Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Cathy Schroeder of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a brother, Larry J. Schroeder of Lewiston, Idaho; and a grandchild, Zavier Francis Schroeder. He is preceded in death by his parents. Rifle Funeral Home, 1400 Access Road, is in charge of arrangements.
