Letter: A third choice
I read with interest Roland McLean’s candidate recommendations for district attorney since I am the independent candidate for that office. While he bashes the incumbent, he did not mention me at all. This reflects the hope of both parties that the voters will not be aware that they have a third, and better, choice this year.
Mr. McLean is free to recommend as he will, but he should be aware that I have 16 years of experience working in a DA’s office. That is more than Jeff Cheney and Sherry Caloia combined. Unlike Jeff, who has most recently been working in a civil law firm doing estate planning, I have been steadily practicing in the courts doing criminal work. I don’t think that my 19 years doing defense work is a disqualification, but rather adds knowledge and balance to being a prosecutor.
While some police officials are supporting their party’s candidate, many current and former police have worked with me and know the close relationships that I have forged with them over the years and during my time in the DA’s office. They are not concerned that my defense experience will be a problem.
The people of this district frequently have been stuck with the candidate selected by a small group of party insiders. They have an actual choice this election to elect an independent and experienced district attorney. I suggest anyone interested check out my website (chip4da.com) or talk with your attorney.
