LIFT-UP gets grant matching up to $1 million

LIFT-UP, the local nonprofit organization that aids the needy, will get a boost in its fund-raising efforts this month thanks to a nationwide matching grant from the Feinstein Foundation of Rhode Island.

This year the foundation has put up $1 million in matching funds, said LIFT-UP director Steve Carcaterra.

Every donation LIFT-UP receives before April 30 will be matched by foundation funds.

“They’re asking nonprofits to challenge donors to contribute,” he said. The foundation supports organizations focused on alleviating hunger.

The percentage of the match depends on the amount of money contributed, Carcaterra said. The more money contributed, the higher the percentage of the match.

LIFT-UP has taken advantage of the program for the last three years, he said. That matching amount has been about $1,000 each year.

“What’s great is … it really jump-starts people,” he said.
