The town of Basalt is accepting applications for appointment to the position of town councilor to serve until the next regular election to be held in April 2006.

In order to qualify for consideration, an applicant must be a registered elector in the town of Basalt and have lived within the town limits for a period of 12 months immediately preceding the appointment.

Interested persons must submit a letter of interest including: applicant’s full name, residence address, mailing address, daytime phone number(s), and birth date.

A Health Risk Assessment meeting will take place from 7-9 p.m. today at the Battlement Mesa Activity Center. Topics to be addressed will be “How do we deal with growth/How do we deal with bust?” Call 625-5200 for more information.

The ballots for the Nov. 1 General Election were mailed Friday, Oct. 14, and will need to be returned to the Garfield County Clerk at 109 Eighth St., Suite 200, Glenwood Springs, or to the Annex Office in Rifle at 144 E. Third St. by 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Please note: Pursuant to new election laws, ballots must be brought into the office or mailed.

Please be sure to sign the ballot affidavit envelope, or your ballot will not be counted.
