When Western State College’s Water Workshop began 30 years ago, it was a different world, and the college’s 30th Water Workshop, “Thirty Years Ago, Who Would Ever Have Imagined,” July 27-29, will focus on that difference.

The conference will feature two hands-on workshops. Russell George, director of Colorado’s Department of Natural Resources and, now, the director of Compact Negotiations, will lead an analysis and “test case” of the Colorado Water for the 21st Century Act (HB05-1177) Friday morning. Also present will be HB05-1177’s primary sponsors, state Rep. Josh Penry, R-Grand Junction, and state Sen. Jim Isgar, D-Hesperus.

All events will be in Western’s College Union in Gunnison.

For more information or to register, contact director George Sibley at (970) 943-2055, or e-mail water@western.edu.

The Glenwood Springs Water Department asks all public water users in the city to eliminate all unnecessary water use, especially outdoors, from 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, through 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 27.

The water treatment plant will be off-line for utility work at the Eighth Street and Midland Avenue intersection.

Please call 945-8372 or 945-7685 with questions.

Carbondale’s Skateboard competition, with more than $1,000 in cash and prizes, will be Sunday, July 31. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and competition begins at 10. Call 704-4116 for details and registration.
