Local kids win Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge
More than 25 participants took part in the Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge competition hosted by Three Rivers Little League on June 29 at the Sopris Fields in Glenwood Springs.
The following youths earned first place honors in their respective age groups.
Boys
Ages 6/7: Sean Mooney from Glenwood Springs
Ages 8/9: Cole Resch from Basalt
Ages 10/11: Brandon Benzel from Glenwood Springs
Ages 12/13: Brian Burbidge from Glenwood Springs
Girls
Ages 8/9: Elisabeth Barsness form Glenwood Springs
These winners now move on to the sectional competition to be held in Aspen on Sunday July 12 at Lower Moore Field at 10 a.m. They could qualify for the State Championship on August 8 to be held at Coca-Cola All Star Park in Lakewood. All State Finalists will then be invited to attend the Colorado Rockies vs. Chicago Cubs game that evening at Coors Field.
The Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge program allows youngsters to showcase their talents in base running, batting and throwing with scores based on speed, distance and accuracy. The Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge is a youth program of the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association with the support of the Colorado Rockies.
