Local musician wins award for best song
GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” Western and Americana musician and author Jon Chandler was awarded the Western Writers of America Spur Award for Best Song for “Linwood,” a tribute to the final days of the infamous Doc Holliday. It appears on Chandler’s newly-released CD, “The Grand Dame of the Rockies”Songs of the Hotel Colorado and the Roaring Fork Valley.”
The historic Hotel Colorado commissioned Chandler to create the CD in celebration of Glenwood Springs, the hotel and the Roaring Fork Valley as a whole, with songs about the rich history, unique people, and legendary stories of the area.
Hotel Colorado hosted a concert for the Glenwood Springs community in November 2008 to launch the CD, with a performance by Jon Chandler and the Wichitones.
According to Chandler, the concept of “Linwood” and several of the other songs on the CD is the product of a childhood obsession with the Old West. Doc Holliday, in particular, caught his interest.
