NEW CASTLE ” A single-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 Wednesday morning killed 18-year-old Daniel G. McQueen.

McQueen’s blue and gray 1988 Isuzu Trooper went off the right side of I-70’s westbound lanes near Exit 105.

The vehicle collided with a dirt embankment, coming to a rest on its side below the embankment.

McQueen died on scene. His family is from New Castle and Rifle.

McQueen was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, which New Castle police are still investigating.

No further information was available Thursday.

The Colorado State Patrol has reported that William Ostrem, 34, of Wyoming, was killed in a single vehicle rollover on the Piceance Creek Road. The crash occurred in the early hours of June 13 but was not reported until about 6:45 a.m., June 14.

Ostrem’s 1998 Chevrolet S10 pickup was reportedly heading west and about 11 miles west of Highway 13, when the truck failed to negotiate a sharp right hand curve and went off the left side of the highway, rolled down a steep embankment and landed on its roof. It then rolled twice more, ejecting both occupants.

Ostrem was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, Jayde Torgerson, 21, of Montana, was transported to Grand River Medical Center then flown to a Denver hospital. Torgerson later died of his injuries.

Neither were wearing seat belts, and excessive speed was a factor in the crash. The state patrol is still investigating whether alcohol was a contributing factor.
