Basalt Police found a dead woman near 400 Lakeside Drive on Saturday morning.The woman had head trauma, and the Basalt Police Department, the Aspen Police Department and the Eagle County Coroner’s Office are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of death. Basalt Police do not suspect foul play, according to a press release.The woman has been identified as a 69-year-old Basalt resident, but police are withholding the name upon notification of next of kin.An autopsy will be conducted today.

Friday’s multivehicle crash that closed Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon for about 3 1/2 hours involved 12 vehicles in three crashes. Six people were sent to Valley View Hospital; five were treated and released with minor injuries and one did not sustain any injuries.The first crash occurred when a 2002 Freightliner tractor-trailer lost control and collided with another vehicle. Several other vehicles lost control and collided. The Freightliner driver was issued a ticket for careless driving.The second crash involved three vehicles. All had passed the first crash. The front two vehicles slowed for the accident, and a 2000 Gold Ford F350 collided with a 2000 Dodge Durango. The Durango then collided with a 2004 Kia Rio. The driver of the F350 was issued a summons for careless driving caused injury.The third crash occurred when a 2006 International tractor-trailer collided with a stopped tractor-trailer. The International continued and hit several vehicles from the first crash. The driver was issued a summons for careless driving caused injury.
