The Colorado Department of Transportation has closed the Glenwood Canyon Bike Path for the season today (two days earlier than last year). The path will be closed from Glenwood Springs at mile marker 116.8 to mile marker 131, on the east end of Glenwood Canyon. CDOT closes the Glenwood Canyon Bike Path each winter, when winter maintenance activities on I-70 above can create unsafe conditions on the path. The path typically opens in April each year, as weather permits.

The Colorado Division of Wildlife is setting up to study the Black Ridge desert bighorn sheep herd of western Colorado this December. The study will span several years and will determine survival data, causes of mortality, habitat selection and usage and interaction with other desert bighorn sheep herds in western Colorado and eastern Utah.Information gained through the study is expected to help managing the herd but will also provide valuable information that could apply to other desert bighorn populations in the state, according to DOW area terrestrial biologist Stephanie Duckett.The Colorado National Monument and McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area are prime habitat for the Black Ridge herd in Western Colorado. Biologists with the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management have provided support for the study as well.
