EnCana flare cause of black smoke plume south of RifleA large plume of black smoke could be seen from Rifle and Silt Friday morning. EnCana Oil and Gas was conducting completion operations at the K33NW gas well pad south of Rifle in the Grass Mesa area, according to EnCana spokeswoman Wendy Wiedenbeck.During the operation, oil waste from the well was dumped in the flare pit and burned, resulting in the black smoke. She indicated that EnCana contacted the Rifle Fire Protection District prior to the burn.RFPD confirmed that they knew about the flare and that no danger was present.Zhang receives deferred sentence in prostitution caseQing Zhang agreed to a deferred sentence with a probationary period of one year on a prostitution charge, a class-three misdemeanor, stemming from an October 2006 arrest. Zhang received a sentence of 24 hours of useful public service and was fined $432 in the plea deal, according to the Colorado Combined Courts clerk, Jim Bradford.Charges of sexual assault and keeping a place of prostitution were dismissed by prosecutors with her agreement to the plea.Zhang was arrested at the Asian Day Spa on Cooper Avenue in Glenwood Springs. Around the same time period, three other arrests were made regarding prostitution at Asian massage spas.The case against Yong Sun Fountain, owner of the VIP Spa in Parachute, was dismissed on Sept. 25. One of Fountain’s employee, Soon Hee Kim, received one year of probation.Hui Jun Mu was found not guilty of prostitution after her trial in August, after her attorney argued that Mu didn’t understand gestures of an undercover police officer was communicating involved sexual acts.- Staff reports
