PARACHUTE – A gas leak at the Early Childhood Literacy Learning Center led to the evacuation of its students Thursday.Grand Valley Fire Protection District Chief David Blair said the gas leak started about 1 p.m. after a gas line that feeds the school was dug up during remodeling activities at the site.School officials evacuated the students at the same time firefighters were called to the scene, Blair said. No injuries were reported.The students were evacuated first to a nearby church and then were bused to the town’s elementary’s school where they remained until the end of the school day.The gas leak was repaired and firefighters made sure the school was safe.”The school should be in service tomorrow,” Blair said.

CARBONDALE – Leslie Emerson announced her decision not to return as principal of the Carbondale Community School (CCS) after this current school year.”I have had an extremely positive and fulfilling six years with the CCS community and Compass,” Emerson stated in a press release. “I am proud of what we have achieved together.”During her tenure, Emerson worked successfully to build a positive and collaborative relationship with the Roaring Fork School District. CCS is a public kindergarten through eighth grade charter school operated by the local non-profit COMPASS … for Lifelong Learning. COMPASS will soon begin a professional search for qualified candidates to succeed Emerson.
