GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a criminal impersonation that occurred on Interstate 70 on March 7, and warns drivers to be cautious.
According to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office, a female driver reported that she had been pulled over near New Castle by a male driving a dark-green sedan equipped with red and blue emergency lights.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:56 a.m. March 7.
The Sheriff’s Office said the woman reported that a male party got out of the sedan and approached her vehicle, identified himself as a Sheriff’s Deputy, and attempted to gather personal information from her.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the woman said she became suspicious of the situation when his conduct toward her became “unprofessional.” The woman refused to give any personal information out and the male suspect left shortly afterward.
The male subject was described as approximately 5-foot-9 to 6-feet tall, weighing 150 to 160 pounds, and is suspected to be in his 30s. He was wearing dark-green uniform pants and shirt with yellow piping around the pockets and “Sheriff” printed on the back, and a “duty style” belt with a night stick.
The Sheriff’s Office has no other leads at this time and encourages all citizens to call 911 immediately if they are suspicious of any contact with someone claiming to be a member of law enforcement.
Garfield County Crime Stoppers is also seeking information involving this case and anyone with information can remain anonymous. People can earn a $1,000 reward with information that leads to an arrest in the case by calling 945-0101.
GARFIELD COUNTY, Colorado ” Garfield County Sheriff’s Deputies recovered the body of David Harmon, 61, on March 7. The body was northwest of the Old Atchee Train Depot near mile marker 21 on County Road 201 in Western Garfield County.
Harmon’s body was discovered near Baxter Pass about 20 miles north of Mack, which is in Mesa County west of Fruita, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Mesa County Sheriff’s Deputies first responded and secured the scene until Garfield deputies arrived.
Foul play is not suspected at this time, but the Sheriff’s Office isn’t releasing any further information because of the pending investigation.
According to the Garfield County Coroner’s Office, Harmon died of natural causes.
