KDNK Community Radio out of Carbondale and Aspen Public Radio are teaming up to bring listeners an in-depth series looking at the threats to the region’s water.

Reporters from the two stations will examine how population growth, climate change, the loss of agricultural land, developments and the energy industry all put strains on Colorado’s limited water resource.

“We wanted to see what would happen when we combined forces on a single subject,” said KDNK station manager Steve Skinner. “This kind of subject matter requires in-depth coverage and by combining forces we are able to explore deeper and cast a wider net.”

The series begins Monday, Dec. 13. Reports can be heard on Aspen Public Radio and KDNK during NPR’s Morning Edition and All Things Considered.

Recorded segments will also be available at http://www.aspenpubliradio.org and http://www.kdnk.org. The series is edited by former NPR Western bureau chief Alisa Barba, and is being underwritten by the Colorado River Water Conservation District.
