A bill by state Rep. Roger Wilson, D-Glenwood Springs, to extend funding for the state’s Wildfire Preparedness Fund was signed by Gov. John Hickenlooper this week.

SB11-238 extends an annual $3.25 million transfer from the Local Government Impact Fund, which is used by the Colorado State Forest Service for wildfire preparedness activities. It includes funding for firefighting resources, agreements and plans.

“I’m excited to welcome Gov. Hickenlooper to Gunnison to sign this bill that will help ensure our firefighters have what they need to do their jobs, and that they have the tools and resources to protect the people and property in our district and across rural Colorado,” Wilson said on Wednesday from the Gunnison Fire Station where the bill was signed.

The bill was sponsored by state Sen. Jeanne Nicholson, D-Gilpin County, in the Colorado Senate.

The front-page story, “A flood of problems along area waterways,” in Thursday’s Post Independent included incorrect information about Garfield County road closures. Only County Roads 317 (Beaver Creek) and 320 (Rifle-Rulison) near the intersection with County Road 323 were closed due to flooding. County Road 311 is not closed. The Post Independent regrets the error.
