Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado – As of 4 p.m. Monday, firefighters have fully contained a wildfire that started Saturday near Bair Ranch, authorities said.

The Collard Green Fire will continue to be monitored by the Flagstaff Hot Shots crew and one fire engine, according to a spokesman for the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management.

The 187-acre fire was caused by lightning and is in Eagle County seven miles west of Gypsum, one and a half miles south of Bair Ranch, and south of Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon. Some smoke may still be visible coming from the fire, authorities said Monday.

The Upper Colorado River Interagency Type 3 Incident Management Team B assumed command of the Collard Green Fire Sunday morning, bringing the total number of fire personnel assigned to 76. The interagency team included the Flagstaff and Idaho Panhandle Hot Shot Crews; three engines from Greater Eagle Fire District, Rifle and Dillon UCR Interagency Fire stations and two water tenders from Greater Eagle Fire District and the Gypsum Fire Protection District.

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado – The Colorado Department of Transportation will close the right lane of eastbound I-70 near mile 123 (Shoshone Power Plant) and mile 125 (Hanging Lake Tunnel) to work on a retaining wall below the highway.

The closure is set for 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7.

A crane will be set up in the right lane to assist with work reinforcing a lower section of the concrete retaining wall that was eroded during recent flooding.

RIFLE, Colorado – The Colorado Department of Transportation will close some of the main Rifle and West Rifle I-70 on- and off-ramps today and Wednesday for paving.

The project will mill off the top layer of asphalt and resurface the ramps, which are heavily cracked and have potholes after the winter and spring season.

The paving will require full ramp closures from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Locations may change somewhat, depending upon how the milling and paving work goes. Motorists should watch for variable message signs for updates.

Alternate entrances and exits for I-70 would be at Silt or West Rifle.

This is the planned ramp closure schedule:

Tuesday, Sept. 6: Main Rifle westbound on-ramp and West Rifle (exit 87) westbound off-ramp

Wednesday, Sept. 7: West Rifle, eastbound on-ramp
