The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office reports that residents are receiving telephone calls from someone claiming to be the sheriff or an attorney and making statements that the recipient owes money, is guilty of check fraud or “might be arrested.”

These calls are fraudulent, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Sheriff’s Office reminds residents not to give personal information over the phone.

Anyone who receives this type of call or any others that seem suspicious or fraudulent should hang up the phone immediately and contact their local law enforcement agency.
