CARBONDALE, Colorado – Roaring Fork High School Principal Cliff Colia will be stepping down after this school year. Roaring Fork Re-1 School District Superintendent Judy Haptonstall made the announcement at the Wednesday school board meeting.

“I got a call this afternoon that Cliff does plan to resign,” she said. “He has been going back and forth on the decision, and needed to take some time with his family before deciding.”

Colia could not be reached Thursday for comment on the decision. He has been principal at RFHS in Carbondale since 2008, and was principal at Carbondale Middle School from 1994 until that time. He was also assistant principal at Glenwood Springs High School from 1989-1994.

Re-1 is now looking to fill two high school principal positions. Basalt High School Principal Kevin Schott also announced recently that he plans to leave the post after the current school year.

The district has already been reviewing applications for the BHS position. A local search committee is likely to be formed in Carbondale to seek applicants for the RFHS position. More information on the search process is expected next week.
