SILT, Colorado – The Garfield County Coroner’s Office has identified the two men who died when they were thrown from a vehicle in a rollover accident near Silt Monday.

The men are Pavel Tolmachev, 19, of Thornton and Aleksandr Koptev, 19, of Westminster, according to Deputy Coroner Chandra Mortensen.

Mortensen said autopsy results are still pending, so the causes of death remain under investigation.

The men were traveling eastbound on I-70 in a Nissan Maxima when the driver failed to slow down for a construction zone east of Rifle. A sheriff’s deputy who had been monitoring traffic gave chase, but stopped the pursuit after four miles.

Three miles farther east the Nissan rolled into the highway median, ejecting all three men aboard. The third man was seriously injured and taken to the hospital.

The accident remains under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol.

House fire: A news brief in the April 26 edition listed an incorrect address for a house fire that occurred in Rifle on Tuesday, April 24. The correct address of the incident is 202 E. Third St.
