GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado – Traffic violation charges against Sandro Torres-Cigarroa, 30, of Carbondale were dismissed Wednesday in Garfield County Court, according to Deputy District Attorney Tony Hershey.

The charges were dismissed because someone else used Torres-Cigarroa’s identity when stopped by police for a traffic offense.

Torres-Cigarroa was also arrested on a warrant in the case on Aug. 13 in Glenwood Springs, and that warrant has been vacated.

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado – The Colorado State Patrol is warning drivers that its “Heat Is On” DUI checkpoints will be set up at various Garfield County locations over the Labor Day weekend.

The goal is to reverse a trend of deadly crashes during the summer months caused by alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers.

Deaths from crashes caused by drunk driving increased by 19 percent in 2011 over 2010, according to State Patrol Chief James Wolfinbarger.

“Citizens can do their part by reporting suspected drunk drivers – by dialing Star CSP/*277 a free cell call – and by taking responsibility to plan ahead by designating a sober driver or taking public transportation if celebrating with alcohol,” he said.

“And please remember to always buckle up. Three out of four people killed last year in drunk-driving crashes were not wearing a seat belt,” he added.
