United Way of Garfield County invites the media and interested community members to attend a special panel discussion and presentation about Hurricane Katrina relief efforts at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Glenwood Springs City Council chambers.

Panel participants, such as the American Red Cross and Salvation Army, will discuss how their agencies are attending to the needs of the hurricane victims and what our local communities can do to help.

Invited agency representatives include Salvation Army, American Red Cross, Catholic Charities and other church organizations that do national emergency relief work, Garfield County Housing Authority, LIFT-UP and the Garfield County Public Safety Commission.

There will be time for questions from the press and public at the end of the presentations. For information, contact Leslie Robinson at 625-8189 or untdway@sopris.net.

Anyone wanting to develop their wilderness first-aid skills may take advantage of Sunlight Mountain’s Ski Patrol’s outdoor emergency-care class, starting at 6:30 p.m. tonight. The class is required for those who want to join the ski patrol and earn a free season pass. Classes are Wednesday and Sunday evenings and run through November at Sopris Elementary School in Glenwood Springs.

Information: Marguerite Flett, 945-5833 or mflett@sopris.net.
