The Cub Scouts Wolf Den Pack 225 has joined with a national grassroots organization, Project Backpack and the town of Carbondale’s “adoption” of a Mississippi town, to aid children devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

The local den has begun filling backpacks to send, and would like to raise community awareness about this project. Their den thanks Factory Surplus for donations of backpacks.

Kat’s Dog Grooming and the American Legion Ladies Auxilary are sponsoring a silent auction to benefit United Animal Nations from 2-5 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion Post, located at 97 N. Third St. in Carbondale.

All donations are tax deductible. Items for bid include everything from area golf rounds to pet care to car care, and there will be something for everyone. The highest bidder, if not present, will be contacted by phone.
