A public relations firm representing Fort Collins rafting company Mountain Whitewater Descents issued a statement Tuesday about Saturday’s fatality in the Colorado River. Kristin Williams, spokeswoman for the Colorado River Outfitters Association, said Jason Hansen, 30, of Fort Collins, was a rafter, not a kayaker, as previously reported. The incident occurred during rafting “training exercises” near Shoshone. It is still unclear what Hansen’s connection was to Mountain Whitewater Descents. The company declined to comment.The incident is still under investigation, and an autopsy will be performed by the Garfield County Coroner.

Caring for Colorado Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant to the Family Visitor Programs in Garfield County.The grant will be used to provide mental health services to high-need pregnant and parenting women in the county.Since beginning its grant program in 2001, Caring for Colorado has awarded more than $30 million in communities across Colorado to increase access to care for underserved populations.Caring for Colorado is a nonprofit foundation that promotes and serves the health care needs of the citizens of Colorado. It supports programs to address community-identified health needs, including oral health, mental health, physical health, prevention and access to care.
