Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado

The Glenwood Springs High School girls soccer team has received the National Soccer Coaches of America Association team academic award for exemplary performance in the classroom as a team during the 2009-10 academic year.

To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.25 for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player’s GPA, then dividing that number by the number of players.

Glenwood Springs is one of only six Colorado schools to receive the award, ranking third in the state and 40th nationally in a field of 241 qualifying teams.

The Sunlight Freestyle Team is now accepting registrations for the 2010-11 season. The team offers competitive freestyle instruction for both skiers and snowboarders and trains Dec. 11-March 20.

The team trains on weekends and two afternoons per week at Sunlight Mountain Resort, as well as a few days at other mountains. Team members have the option to compete in United States of America Snowboard Association-sanctioned events at Snowmass and Copper.

For more information, contact coach Austin Hadley (948-8894, austinhadley@live.com) or Joe Sims, Sunlight Ski School supervisor (945-7491, joe@sunlightmtn.com).

Coal Ridge High School’s boys basketball program is hosting a winter hoops camp – the Junior Titan Ballers Camp – over the holiday break for third- through eighth-grade boys and girls. Camp runs Dec. 28-31 from 10 a.m.-noon. The cost is $40.

Contact Paul Harvey at 665-6737, 274-1582 or at pharvey@garfieldre2.org to register for the camp or for more information.
