Rifle High’s summer club baseball squad split its first two games at the Austin Booth Memorial Wood Bat Tournament, a four-day affair at Deerfield Park in Rifle.
Rifle defeated Summit County, 6-3, on Thursday after a 6-3 loss to Grand Junction on Wednesday.
Against Summit County, Hunter Finger pitched four innings, allowing just an unearned run. He also had a single, sacrifice fly and three RBIs.
In the loss to Grand Junction, Triston Quigley belted an RBI double.
Pool play continued Friday night, with Rifle playing Thomas Jefferson in the final game of the day. The result was not available at press time.
Today, teams battle it out for tournament placement. Games begin at 9 a.m. and wrap up with the championship game at 7 p.m.
Registration for the Tri-Glenwood Triathlon is now open. This year’s race is Sept. 11.
In conjunction with guest coaches from Arsenal Youth Soccer, Glenwood Springs Soccer Club will offer two training camps for aspiring players this summer.
The first is July 11-15 and the second on Aug. 8-12. Younger players (4 to 8 years old) attend a half-day camp (9 a.m.-noon, $85) and players 8-14 attend all day (9 a.m.-3 p.m., $125).
