Fresh off an ankle injury that kept her on crutches and off snow, Basalt resident and Snowmass ski instructor Andrea Arms wound up second in her bid to defend her 2009 platinum-division title at this past weekend’s NASTAR national championship races at Winter Park.

Arms skied two races Saturday, but ankle pain caused her to blow out of a gate. Sunday, as heavy snow fell, Arms laid down the fastest run for her age group to secure silver-medal position.

“Yes, I’m disappointed I didn’t win the gold, but then again, my doctor told me I wouldn’t be skiing at all this season,” Arms told a television reporter. “So, all things being considered, I think silver is a lovely color.”
