Basalt improved to 11-5 with a 12-1 softball win at Rifle on Tuesday.

A seven-run third inning broke the game wide open for the Longhorns.

Brittany Neuroth and Jenny Cross had hits for the Bears, who dropped to 7-10.



Sophomore Willy Salamanca recorded his second hat trick of the season to lead the Basalt soccer team to a 7-0 rout of Colorado Rocky Mountain School on Tuesday afternoon in Carbondale.

Julio Aguirre scored Rifle’s lone goal in a 7-1 loss at Roaring Fork in Tuesday boys soccer play.



The Rams improved to 5-4 with the win. The Bears dropped to 4-8.

In a volleyball match originally scheduled for Thursday but moved up to Tuesday, Battle Mountain held off visiting Glenwood Springs in four games.

The Huskies won by game counts of 25-13, 9-25, 25-11 and 25-21.

Aspen’s volleyball team swept past host Rifle, 28-26, 25-22, 25-15, to win its second straight match on Tuesday.

The Bears dropped to 1-14 overall and to 1-13 in the 3A WSL with the defeat.
