Local women training, fundraising for Komen 3-Day for the Cure walk

Shari Nova and Carol Pucak are walking a lot these days. They have to if they want to log the recommended 585 training miles recommended before participating in the Komen 3-Day for the Cure.

The two Mason Morse brokers plan to celebrate their 60th birthdays by traveling to San Diego for a 3-day, 60-mile walk to raise money for breast cancer research and support. The event will be held today through Sunday, and is expected to draw thousands of participants who spend their days on foot and nights in a two-person tent.

Each participant is required to raise at least $2,300, so when they are not walking, Carol and Shari are fundraising. They have put up posters at Mason Morse offices up and down the valley to encourage their co-workers to pitch in for the cause.

To help encourage donations, the company has promised to donate 50 cents for every dollar raised internally from brokers and employees.

“We thought this would be a great way to help Carol and Shari succeed, and encourage their co-workers to consider supporting their efforts,” said Kim Briscoe, vice president of marketing.

There have been 3-Day for the Cure events across the nation this year, and the San Diego walk from Nov. 19-21 is the last scheduled for 2010.
