Africans on a traditional, plant-based diet don’t have the gastrointestinal issues that so many people on a Western, animal-based diet have, including diverticulosis and diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, reflux and colon cancer.

This is not due to genetics, because African-Americans have the same GI issues the rest of us have. For more, go to nutritionfacts.org. (nutritionfacts.org)

Dr. Feinsinger of Carbondale, who retired in February from Glenwood Medical Associates after 41 years as a family physician, will provide a health tip each Tuesday in the Post Independent. Contact him at gfeinsinger@comcast.net.
