If you’ve never been to Meadowlark Gardens at 2259 Broadway, near the Redlands Parkway, you may be unaware that owner Angeline Barrett sells more than flowers, trees and shrubs.

There are poinsettias, Christmas cactus and ornaments, as well as wreaths, garlands and greenery for making your own Christmas decorations. Plus, all-year round Barrett sells artsy clothing, jewelry and other items.

Thus, turning her shop into an occasional venue for local artists to sell their wares was a natural fit.

This weekend, on Dec. 14 and 15, the Art Jewelers Guild will hold its annual holiday sale at Meadowlark Gardens — Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.

Approximately 10 guild members will be selling their original, handcrafted jewelry. The artists work with silver, gold, beads, fused and torched glass, wire and fiber to make a variety of necklaces, bracelets and earrings, as well as collars, cuffs, boas and pins.

“We have had artists show their work throughout our history,” Barrett said, citing last month’s Art Quilters Show, and an Art Colony exhibit in the past. “It’s something we like to do — provide a venue.”

“The Art Jewelers are so varied and interesting. They do all kinds of crafts and art.”

Guild member Virginia Jensen works with tiny glass beads — she calls it “bead weaving” or “bead embroidery” to create intricate beaded necklaces, bracelets and earrings.

“We all make jewelry, but we’re all very different. That’s what’s fun about this show,” Jensen said.

It’s a place to buy a unique gift and meet the artists. If an item needs re-sizing or adjustments, it can often be done, Jensen said.

“We can custom-make jewelry,” she said.

The Art Jewelers Guild meets monthly, with members always presenting a “show and tell” of what they’ve been working on. It’s an opportunity to share techniques and learn various “tips of the trade.”

During the weekend holiday sale, there will be several drawings for items made by the various artists. Refreshments will also be served.

The guild can also be reached by calling 970-243-1220 or 970-434-4804.

Meadowlark Gardens is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday noon to 4 p.m.
