Jack Wright, the suspect in the West Glenwood Alpine Bank robbery late last month, was arrested without incident Wednesday afternoon in Maryland.
According to police, Wright, 52, entered the West Glenwood Alpine Bank on the afternoon of June 30 and displayed a handgun and note to one of the tellers. Under video surveillance, the robber demanded and received the contents of a cash drawer. Bob Young, the bank’s chairman and founder, estimated the drawer would have held between $5,000 and $10,000.
The robber left the bank on foot, heading north. Police believe he was acting alone and are not seeking any other suspects.
The case has been referred to the U.S. attorney for consideration of federal prosecution. Wright will likely face charges of aggravated robbery, felony menacing and theft.
Wright is also wanted in Florida for failure to appear in court on a workplace fraud charge.
In a press release Wednesday evening, Glenwood Springs Police Chief Terry Wilson credited the community with helping catch the robber.
“A considerable amount of information that was useful to the conclusion of this investigation was provided by citizens who read and viewed media accounts of the crime, virtually within hours, and the GSPD would like to thank both the citizens who called and assisted us and our partners in the media for aiding us in broadcasting our request for that information,” he wrote.

Big subsidy required to keep recycling drop-off site operating in Basalt
Basalt town government officials learned from Waste Management that it will require a $120,000 subsidy to keep a recycling drop-off site in Willits operating in 2020. That’s double the subsidy of last year. It reflects the depressed market for recycled materials.
