Bustang expands to weekends
When the Colorado Department of Transportation announced Bustang bus service over the summer, the lack of weekend service was one of the top criticisms.
On Nov. 21, however, the Glenwood Springs-to-Denver bus service will expand to seven days a week after just a few months of weekday operation.
An attempt to provide regional transit between local systems, Bustang launched in July with service from Fort Collins, Colorado Springs and Glenwood to Denver.
The western route departs the 27th Street Park and Ride just after 7 a.m. and returns from Denver’s Union Station around 6 p.m. with stops in Eagle, Vail and Frisco. Tickets run $28 each way, with passes and other discounts available. Each coach is equipped with restrooms, bike racks, free WiFi, power outlets and USB ports. Coaches have a 50-passenger capacity and are accessible for persons with disabilities.
Saturday and Sunday service is expected to follow a similar schedule, allowing locals to make weekend trips to the Front Range and potentially opening the door to ski traffic.
Along with the seven-day-a-week service, Bustang will continue to adjust route scheduling to improve on-time performance and streamline connections with transit partners, the Colorado Department of Transportation said. Passengers will be able to view the new west route schedule and other scheduling changes beginning Nov. 16 at http://www.ridebustang.com.
“Bustang continues to help CDOT connect Coloradans to a multi-modal transportation system,” CDOT Executive Director Shailen Bhatt said. “Expanding Bustang is one more option for those who want travel alternatives.”
