Car strikes, kills pedestrian near Aspen Village

ASPEN — Authorities are investigating after a man was struck and killed by a car while walking across a highway near Aspen Village.

Colorado State Trooper Justin Williams said the man was crossing Highway 82 when he was hit just after 11 p.m. Friday. Neither the 23-year-old driver from Glenwood Springs nor his passenger was hurt.

Authorities didn’t release the victim’s name, but his co-workers identified him as Pedro Granado, who is believed to have been in his late 40s or early 50s.

Rohn Fleming, manager of the Aspen restaurant where Granado worked, described him as “an all-around nice guy” who will be missed.

Investigators are trying to determine how fast the car was going and whether alcohol was involved in the accident.
