Carbondale pedestrian hit Tuesday is ID’d

The pedestrian struck Tuesday by a pickup truck at a Carbondale intersection was identified Wednesday.

Police said the man is Jose Alonzo Serrano, 61, of Carbondale. Local authorities said they had not been updated on his condition Wednesday. He was flown to a Denver hospital Tuesday.

Serrano was crossing Highway 133 near the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority park and ride with a green light when a Dodge pickup turning south onto the highway struck him.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Valley View Hospital with what were described as critical injuries, and then flown to Denver for further treatment.

Carbondale Police Chief Gene Schilling said officers were still interviewing witnesses on Wednesday. He had said Tuesday that the driver cooperated with the investigation, and results will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office to consider possible charges.
