Carbondale’s The Annex farm-to-table store shuttered
The Annex, a farm-to-table store in Carbondale, closed down shortly after moving to a new location downtown earlier this year.
In a response to a query on Carbondale’s unofficial Facebook group, owner Terri Anzini explained that the project proved untenable due to new state rules that required her to install a kitchen.
According to Therese Pilonetti, unit manager for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Division of Environmental Health and Sustainability, the Annex had a voluntary closure agreement with the state for its new premises. After a recent inspection, the state notified Anzini of several requirements for nonprepackaged food, but didn’t shut the store down.
“She hasn’t told us she’s not going to open,” Pilonetti said.
Anzini, however, seems already to have moved on. In her post, she expressed plans for a farm store in Missouri Heights and the potential for a much larger food hub sometime in the future. She could not be reached for further comment.
