Local teen actors, musicians and bands will have a chance to audition in Glenwood Springs Sunday for an upcoming independent teen horror film project that strives to showcase Colorado’s young talent.

“We’re targeting cities and towns around the state where we think our project will have some appeal, and we’ve heard there are quite a few actors in Glenwood Springs,” said Ronda Belser, executive producer for Perilous Productions which is putting together the “My Teen Movie” project [www.myteenmovie.com].

Glenwood Springs is one of 20 locations around Colorado hosting casting calls. Directors will be at the Cardiff Schoolhouse, located in the Cardiff Glen neighborhood in south Glenwood at 4018 Sky Ranch Drive, from 1-4 p.m. Sunday.

Local bands or musicians can also submit their songs for consideration to musicians@myteenmovie.com

The top 25 actors from the auditions and 10 bands or musicians will have their audition recordings uploaded to the project website at http://www.myteenmovie.com in May, and the public will be allowed to vote online to help select the cast.

“We wanted to make a one-of-a-kind independent film generated off of teen ideas and creativity,” Belser said.

After soliciting ideas from teens and selecting a genre, psychological horror, a team of cast writers went to work to write a script that matched the teenager’s ideas, she said.

“We then chose a director and we’re now into the casting process,” said Belser, who has been in various television and commercial productions herself.

“Our goal is to make a movie that Colorado can be proud of, and that we can release across the state to show off the talent we have here,” she said.

The film will be shot in Nederland and various locations in Denver, and the hope is to premier it in one of the larger Front Range movie theaters, with local premiers in the towns from which the lead actors were chosen.

Casting directors will narrow the field down to five finalists for each lead role in the film, and bands and musicians will be chosen to put together the movie soundtrack.

Additional casting calls have already taken place or are planned in Grand Junction, Steamboat Springs and Durango on the Western Slope. The rest are on the Front Range and in Eastern Plains communities, Belser said.

“We’re looking for people who have done community theater or been in their local school productions,” she said. “Most films screen their actors out of LA or New York, but not a lot of stuff comes through Colorado.

“What better way to say, ‘look what we accomplished here,’” Belser said. “The real goal is not necessarily to sell the film, but to make a production that the people involved can be proud of, and that Colorado can be proud of.”

Actors who show up for the auditions but don’t land a lead role will also be used as extras in the production, she said.
