To allow free flow of traffic over the holiday, construction crews will not work in the Highway 82 Cattle Creek are over the July 4 weekend.

Crew stopped work by midday Friday, and will not resume until 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. Garfield County is constructing new acceleration and deceleration lanes at Cattle Creek and Highway 82 over a four-month period.

Speeds in the construction zone will remain at 50 mph over the holiday weekend. Drivers are strongly urged to obey this posted speed limit, and are reminded that officers may be present at any time, and fines are increased in work zones – even when work is not occurring.

In addition to the work on Highway 82 at the Cattle Creek interchange next week, Garfield County Road and Bridge crews will be paving County Road 133 (Cattle Creek Road) starting Tuesday.

Bicycle riders should also take care in the Cattle Creek area along the Rio Grande Trail, and any crossing Highway 82 to access the Cattle Creek Road should take utmost precaution.
